How to choose a great set based on your throw—not just the name on the box.
Start with the barrel, not the player name
There is no single dart that is best for everybody. The right set depends on how you hold the barrel, the weight you control comfortably and the shape that leaves your hand cleanly. A straight or gently tapered tungsten barrel is a versatile place to start because it allows several grip positions.
What weight should you choose?
Rather than chasing an exact number immediately, pay attention to your throw. If the dart feels difficult to accelerate or drops early, a slightly lighter option may suit you. If your throw feels rushed or unstable, a little more weight can sometimes help.
Does tungsten percentage matter?
Higher tungsten content allows a manufacturer to make a slimmer barrel at a given weight, which can help tight grouping. It does not automatically make a dart better. Shape, grip position and dimensions remain just as important.
How much grip do you need?
More grip is not always better. Deep cuts can feel secure but may catch during release. Moderate grip is a useful starting point; choose something more aggressive if you regularly feel the barrel slipping.
