Dart Barrel Shapes Explained

Straight, torpedo, bomb and tapered barrels—and what each shape changes.

Straight barrels

Straight barrels are versatile and offer freedom over grip position. They are common at every level and are particularly useful while you are learning your preferred grip.

Torpedo and bomb barrels

These designs concentrate more width and mass into a shorter section. They can feel compact and stable for a defined grip, although the extra width may affect how tightly darts group.

Tapered barrels

A taper can create a useful reference point for the fingers and may suit players who push from a particular section. The direction and severity of the taper make a large difference.

Match the shape to your grip

Look at where your thumb and fingers naturally land. The barrel should support that position rather than force you to rebuild your throw around the equipment.
